Prussian Officer’s Gilt “FR” Monogram Device with Crown – Guard Regiments

This is a fine, small gilt officer’s device featuring the crowned “FR” (Friedrich Rex) cypher of the Prussian Guard regiments. Measuring just about 1 inch (approx. 25 mm) in height, this insignia would have been mounted on an officer’s epaulette, shoulder strap, or occasionally as a small uniform distinction rather than helmet hardware.

Details & Construction:

  • Material: Fire-gilt brass with finely detailed casting.

  • Design: Ornate intertwined “FR” monogram surmounted by the Imperial crown.

  • Reverse: Original soldered mounting prongs intact.

  • Size: Approximately 25 mm (1 inch) in height.

Historical Context:
The crowned “FR” monogram was the emblem of the elite Prussian Guard formations, based in Berlin and personally associated with Kaiser Wilhelm II. Officers of these regiments wore such gilt devices on epaulettes and shoulder straps to distinguish their prestigious status. Small cyphers like this are far rarer than enlisted examples and are closely sought by collectors of Imperial German Guard material.

Condition:
Very good with excellent gilt finish and light wear from age. Prongs remain secure. Fine detailing to crown and monogram.

Collector’s Notes:
Because of their small size and officer-only use, these devices are scarce today, especially when retaining original finish. Highly desirable for Imperial German insignia collectors or as a correct restoration part for officer’s epaulettes and straps.
