This is an original Prussian Medaille des Ordens der Krone (Medal of the Order of the Crown), the medal grade of the Preußischer Kronenorden (Prussian Order of the Crown), awarded for meritorious civil and military service under the Hohenzollern monarchy. The medal is struck in gilt bronze or gilded base metal and is circular in form, suspended from a cast gilt crown fitting of the type characteristic of Prussian order medals of this class.

The obverse of the medal presents a cross pattée design inscribed within the circular field, with the four arms of the cross meeting at a raised central medallion bearing a Hohenzollern royal crown in relief, surrounded by a circular inscription the full text of which is partially obscured by the angle of photography and is most fully read in hand. The overall obverse composition — the cross within a disc surmounted by a crown — is consistent with the established iconography of the Prussian Order of the Crown throughout its history from institution under King Wilhelm I in 1861 through the end of the Kaiserreich in 1918. The reverse bears the large interlaced cipher WRWilhelm Rex — in broad Gothic or Fraktur-influenced script occupying nearly the full face of the disc, identifying the issuing monarch as either Kaiser Wilhelm I or Kaiser Wilhelm II. The script style and gilt treatment are consistent with late nineteenth or early twentieth century production. The suspension fitting is a cast and pierced royal crown in gilt metal of considerable detail, with the individual arches, orbs, and fleur-de-lis elements of the Hohenzollern crown form clearly rendered, connecting to a plain suspension ring above through which a ribbon would originally have been threaded. No ribbon is present with the medal in the provided images.

The Preußischer Kronenorden (Order of the Crown) was established on January 18, 1861, the same date as the proclamation of the Kingdom of Prussia under Wilhelm I, making it one of the defining dynastic decorations of the Hohenzollern house during the Imperial period. The order was awarded in five classes ranging from the Grand Cross down through first, second, and third class crosses to the medal, and recipients included both military officers and civil servants recognized for distinguished service. The medal grade, the lowest in the order's hierarchy, was nonetheless a formal royal decoration carrying the direct authority of the Prussian crown and was worn on a white ribbon with black and orange stripes — the Hohenzollern dynastic colors.

Condition is good. The gilt finish retains strong even color throughout the medal face and crown suspension, with the natural toning of age visible in the recessed areas of the crown fitting and at the suspension ring junction. The cross and cipher reliefs are well-defined. The suspension ring shows age wear at the contact points. No ribbon is present.
