This exceptional and extremely rare Imperial German Feldpost (field post) stamper was once used by the 1st Garde-Korps, one of the most elite formations within the Kaiser’s army. The sturdy wooden handle shows fine turnings with a bulbous head and traces of period wear, while the well-weathered stamping surface still retains excellent legibility despite clear use.
The reverse of the stamper reveals the text:
"Feldpostamt / 1. Garde Korps / Nr. 215"
— clearly denoting the field post office assigned to the 1st Garde Korps, the prestigious guard corps headquartered in Berlin and often at the front lines throughout World War I. These postal implements were used to validate, route, and mark military correspondence sent from field operations and command centers.
The base of the stamper is cast in what appears to be lead or a lead-alloy and has oxidized over time, adding to the deep historical character. The handle shows signs of having been mounted or stored long-term, with a bore hole at the top—likely used to hang or store it securely during active service.
Historical Insight:
Feldpost was a critical part of Imperial German military logistics. The 1. Garde Korps often served in high-profile campaigns and was frequently mentioned in dispatches and orders. Authentic feldpost stampers are incredibly scarce today, especially ones from elite units such as this.
