This is an original front plate (Wappen) from a Saxon officer’s Pickelhaube, the iconic spiked helmet used throughout the Imperial German era. This particular specimen represents the Kingdom of Saxony, featuring the distinct Saxon shield with diagonal rue branches encircled by a laurel wreath. This emblem is superimposed on a finely detailed, spread-winged Prussian eagle with a crowned head.

The eagle bears the traditional scroll motto "Mit Gott für König und Vaterland” (“With God for King and Fatherland”), and includes the characteristic orb and scepter clutched in the talons—standard for officer-grade insignia. The plate retains its original two-tone gilt and silver finish, now softened with patina consistent with age. The reverse shows intact mounting hardware and solder points, with no major bends or repairs, though minor wear is evident on the upper crown points and wing edges.

These Saxon Wappen were used on officer helmets from the late 19th century through World War I and are far scarcer than their Prussian or Bavarian counterparts.

Condition: Very Good+ – light patina and surface wear; reverse mounting studs intact; crisp details throughout.
Measurements: Approx. 14.5 cm wingtip to wingtip.
Display Suggestions: Ideal for framing with an officer's epaulette or cockade, or mounting alongside a complete Pickelhaube restoration project.
