This elegant set of six hand-blown green glass goblets is a rare and refined example of Imperial German tableware, likely from the late 19th to early 20th century. Each goblet features a finely etched crowned monogram or cipher, which appears to be “W” or “WR” beneath a stylized Royal Crown, a reference to Kaiser Wilhelm II (Wilhelm Rex), the final German Emperor and King of Prussia (r. 1888–1918).

The style of the crown — with five arches and a central orb — is consistent with Prussian royal iconography. The intertwined script monogram further supports attribution to an imperial table service, likely for ceremonial or officer's mess use, or perhaps as commemorative glassware associated with royal events, such as maneuvers, jubilees, or diplomatic dinners.

These glasses are of thick green-tinted glass with elegant knopped stems and wide rounded bowls. Each one features three finely cut horizontal bands above the monogram and one band beneath it, adding symmetry and highlighting the central etched insignia.

Features:

  • Set of six identical goblets

  • Each features finely etched crowned cipher, likely for Kaiser Wilhelm II

  • Rich green hue common in Central European glasswork of the period

  • Knopped stems and sturdy bases — mouth-blown, with slight variations expected

  • Excellent clarity and craftsmanship with minimal signs of wear

  • No chips or cracks visible

Dimensions (each glass):

  • Height: Approx. 5.25 in (13.3 cm)

  • Diameter: Approx. 3 in (7.6 cm) at rim

  • Capacity: Approx. 5–6 oz

Historical Context:

These goblets may have belonged to a formal Imperial military or noble household, or perhaps were produced in limited quantity for an official function. Green glass was especially favored in Northern and Central Germany, with regions like Thuringia, Saxony, and Bavaria hosting several renowned glassworks in this era.

The cipher “W” with the royal crown was widely used on military insignia, medals, and state-commissioned porcelain and glassware during Kaiser Wilhelm II’s reign. Similar examples can be found in the collections of German palaces and military academies.

Collector Appeal:

This set is ideal for collectors of Imperial German tableware, glassware, or anyone looking to elevate a period dining or display setting with authentic, regal detail. The etched ciphers make them particularly appealing to military historians and Prussian Empire enthusiasts.
