This original WWI-era Imperial German Militärpaß (military service book) belonged to a soldier named Sennholz, born in Leipzig, and later residing in Hamburg. Issued during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II, this booklet served as an official military identification and service record for enlisted men of the Prussian Army.

Of particular historical note, this passbook was stamped multiple times by the Königliches Bezirkskommando Hamburg and contains documentation of his assignment to Landsturm-Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon II Hamburg as well as work at the Vulcan-Werke—one of Germany’s most important wartime shipyards, known for building naval vessels including U-boats and cruisers.

The booklet is complete with handwritten entries, military notations, ink stamps, and personal details. Notably, a folded auxiliary document ("Ausweis") dated 1918–1919 is affixed inside, authorizing a return to civilian employment, a common practice in the demobilization period following the war.

The cover bears the Prussian eagle and is titled Militärpaß des Musketiers Sennholz, with "Provinzialinfanterie" printed at the base, designating a provincial infantry unit. Interior pages record personal information, family background, physical description, and assignments.

Condition:

  • Moderate handling wear but structurally sound

  • Binding is intact

  • Legible entries throughout with distinct stamps

  • Auxiliary paper firmly attached but aged

This passbook offers not only a personal snapshot of an Imperial German soldier but also insight into the administrative machinery of the Prussian military during the final stages of the First World War and the early Weimar demobilization efforts.
